Those juniors with a 3.85 g.p.a. or higher and seniors with a 3.7 g.p.a. or higher by the end of the fall semester are automatically considered and their transcripts are evaluated by the Electoral Board, which also solicits letters of recommendation for eligible students.

Past academic success usually predicts future academic success; applicants with outstanding academic credentials pose little risk to medical schools in terms of academic success. These schools also favor applicants who have won national awards/honors, such as Phi Beta Kappa, Truman/Goldwater/Rhodes Scholarships, etc.

Both require superior scholarship and good character as criteria for membership. Seniors: Departments may nominate up to 7.5 percent of seniors of exceptional academic quality, of good character, and with a minimum grade point average (g.p.a.) of 3.5 and a class ranking in the top 10 percent.

You are expected to have a 3.5 GPA when you apply for membership. However, after joining Phi Theta Kappa you are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

The KA standard is a 3.0 overall chapter GPA. A chapter will be placed on social probation for making below a 2.8 GPA. Make sure you are aware and up to date on Kappa Alpha Order's scholarship standards.
