Frequently Asked Questions

Need Help?

  • What is Driving-Schools.com and how does it work?

We launched Driving-Schools.com in 2020 with a singular goal: to provide the most comprehensive list of driving schools in the United States. Driving-Schools.com isn't just a website, it's a platform that helps literally anyone find the perfect driving school that fits their specific needs. We also help driving schools showcase themselves and present their offers in the best possible way.

  • How complete is your list of U.S. driving schools?

We're confident that our list of the 10,000+ known driving schools in the United States is the most complete resource available. Our staff also continuously works to update the list as schools open, close, or change ownership.

If we've missed a school, let us know and we'll add it to the list. If you are a school owner, then you can register your school for free.

  • How much does a driver license cost?

To obtain a California driver license, you’ll need to pay a fee of $37. In addition to the licensing fee, you should be prepared for potential application fees, testing fees, processing fees, or some combination of these costs. Keep in mind that fees are subject to change, and the most effective way to stay up to date on current licensing costs is to reach out to your local DMV. Along with paying the required fees, you will need to bring in several verified documents, pass a vision screening test, pass a knowledge test, and pass a driving skills test to earn your license.

  • How hard is the drivers test?

Some may find it more challenging than others, but with the right amount of studying and practice, any driver should be able to pass the California road test! During this test, a driver will be expected to safely operate a vehicle in traffic, follow signs and signals, safely communicate with other drivers, and generally follow the rules of the road. The more technical aspects of the California road test include safely pulling up to a curb, backing parallel to a curb for three vehicle lengths, and pulling away from the curb. Many find these technical elements of the driving test to be the most challenging, so applicants may consider extra practice on these tasks before taking the test.

  • How old to get drivers license?

In the state of California, a driver may be a minimum of 18 years old to receive their full Class C License. A driver must be at least 15 years old to get an Instruction Permit and at least 16 years old to obtain a Provisional License. To work up to full driving privileges, minors are required to go through a gradual licensing process with several levels of driving practice. A driver should be aware of any restrictions that are placed on their type of license, such as the number of passengers allowed in their vehicle at one time and whether or not they are allowed to drive during nighttime hours.

  • How to prepare for driving test?

To best prepare for a driving test, a new California driver can do three things. First, each applicant should study the California Driver Handbook, which is full of important laws, essential driving instruction, and valuable safety tips. In addition to studying the handbook, new drivers under the age of 18 will need to complete a driver’s education course. Finally, a driver should practice supervised driving while holding an Instruction Permit. To be sure they’re thoroughly prepared for the driving test, a driver should continue to practice supervised driving until they are completely comfortable behind the wheel, even if that takes a longer period of time than expected.

  • How to prepare for permit test?

When it’s time to prepare for your written knowledge test, the first thing you should do is check out the California Driver Handbook. The handbook holds all the information you’ll need to pass the test, including important laws and essential driving instruction. After reading through the handbook, check out some online practice quizzes! There’s no better way to assess how prepared you are than by taking a test just like the one you’ll face at the DMV. In addition to studying on your own, it’s a good idea to take a driver’s education course from an approved driving school. Even if driver’s education isn’t required for your age group, learning from an instructor who knows the ins and outs of state driving laws is a great way to help cement them in your mind.

  • Do I have to pay a fee to find a driving school?

No! Searching for schools is always free. There are no hidden fees or memberships or anything like that. We created Driving-Schools.com to be a free service that helps people find the best schools, so they can get on the road as quickly and safely as possible.

  • How can I contact Driving-Schools.com?

Want to learn more about the benefits of partnering with us? Or have a general question or suggestion? Simply click on our Support Link and we'll get back to you right away.

  • How do I leave a review for a driving school?

We'd love to hear about your driving school experiences. To leave a review for one, simply search for the driving school on the home page. Click on the associated listing and then scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the review section.

BEWARE, I had to call the police on Dorrance Hogan the owner of Goldline CDL for stealing $1,800 from me. DO NOT GIVE GOLD-LINE CDL A DIME FOR YOUR CLASS A OR B LICENSE. Yes, they cheap! That is how they got me in the door, so they could raise the price after they had my money. I was quoted $1,600 to get my class A CDL. I gave Dorrance $200 extra than he asked because I wanted to get extra driving time. Dorrance asked me for $4,000 extra dollars to finish my class A CDL, because I was a new driver. I showed Dorrance his website says “provides training for entry level drivers.” I asked for a full refund and Dorrance said no.I got a 96% on his online course, and he calls me stupid. I am not stupid. There are 2 trainers Dorrance and Charlie, and they teach totally differently. They only do training once a week. Last-time I trained I started backing up the way Charlie taught me and Dorrance screamed at me “what the fu*** are you doing???I told Dorrance I was going to postt complaints and he said, “I do not care”. All I wanted was for Dorrance to finish the service he sold me or to refund me.Read More

This has been the worst experience with a local company. Their voicemail is always full and the don't return calls. It has taken over a year to get my daughter scheduled for her sessions - Shawn, the owner, is very difficult to work with. We were informed after meeting every requirement, class and in-car session that a single roster document is missing and my daughter has to retake the entire course with in-cars and everything again. From the beginning. Do not recommend, Stay away - This company is going to cause you so much frustration.Read More

I registered my daughter to receive driving lessons from MTV Driving school only after getting rave reviews from a bunch of friends. They lied to me and scheduled my daughter with an instructor who no longer works there and who also does not currently have her license to teach. On the day of the first scheduled lesson, I received a phone call saying that the instructor was sick and they had to reschedule my sessions.Meanwhile, they had not prepped her permit and had no intentions of providing her the service that was promised and paid for. They have since denied my request to be refunded.Do yourself a favor and stay away!Don’t get tricked by their false kindness and lies.Go somewhere else!Read More

I LOVE THIS SCHOOL AND THE STAFF!!!!!!!! The first day of school you're on the truck and learning begins. Take your time is the key. Everything is here for you including the support needed to be successful. I originally attended Progressive in Cicero, which was very stressful, and a huge mistake. I learned about this school from someone who left Progressive, also who came here to graduate in less time so I followed. You should, too.Read More
